CHAPTER SIX ~ JULIE

“Oh my God!” I scream, grabbing the side of my neck. I pull my hand away and stare at it—blood mingled with sticky saliva. “You bit me! Oh my God!” I am shuddering from the intense orgasm firing through my body, but the bliss is coupled with shooting pain from where Trent just sunk his teeth into me and the pure shock of it all. My entire body feels like it’s on fire.

“Julie, I marked you. You are mine now.” He says matter of factly.

“What! What the hell?” I sat up, pressing my hand against the tender flesh. “What are you talking about?” Aside from past gossip I’d heard that they were studs in the bedroom and hung like horses, I really don’t know a lot about shifters or their habits. I hadn’t met many of them when I was in school, and Trent was one of the few I’d worked with. I vaguely remembered reading an article about how they marked their mates, but it was a long time ago. I’d forgotten about it. And even if I had remembered, I never dreamed Trent would do a thing like this anyway.

“When a shifter meets his mate, he brands her with his scent and his mark. I marked you. You’re my mate. You belong to me.”

“Marked? I never agreed to getting marked, Trent! Where do you get off branding me?” I feel mad and confused. Deep down, the idea of belonging to Trent was kind of a turn on. But I wasn’t ready to get involved in a relationship, and I was too independent to let him get away with this. “You own me, my ass!”

I get up from the bed and pull my jeans on as Trent watches, an expression of disbelief on his face. “You’re mine, Julie…mine. Why don’t you see that? What’s wrong with you?”

“Wha…what’s wrong with me?” I sputter. “You have some nerve thinking you can brand me…mark me…whatever you did.” He is really pissing me off.

“But don’t you feel it? Don’t you know we belong together?” he asks.

I hesitate for a moment. I don’t know what to think. After my experience with Don and the other men in my life, I swore I wouldn’t get involved again—yet something deep inside of me aches for him. I brush off my thoughts. Clearly, he was just trouble. “I never should have done this…”

Trent looks puzzled and hurt.

I pull my wet, wine splattered t-shirt over my head, yanking it down. Grabbing my bra, I stuff it in my pocketbook. “You can’t go around marking women.”

“What the fuck! I don’t mark women. I marked you. I claimed you. You’re my intended—my mate!”

I shook my head. “I’m leaving. And don’t you dare follow me!”

I don’t look back at him as I head out the bedroom door and down the stairs. The music is loud and there’s a throng of people but I push my way through and get to the front door. Thank God I drove myself and can make a hasty exit.
